The Pizza Man
2022
The Pizza Man is a comedy student short film that explores the blurred lines between exhaustion and imagination. Directed by Florence Akuma, the story follows a diligent student working on his MacBook in class. As fatigue takes over, he dozes off and finds himself in a surreal dream, racing against time to deliver a pizza to a waiting customer. Just as the tension peaks, reality pulls him back when his alarm jolts him awake. This lighthearted film combines humor and relatability, offering a playful take on the struggles of student life and the unexpected adventures of the subconscious mind. In addition to being the director, I was the cinematographer/DOP, editor and producer.
Environmental Feelings

Environmental Feelings is a student short documentary that explores the personal connection between individuals and their surroundings. Directed by Florence Akuma, the film follows Irene Kim Juyoung, a student in Coventry, as she shares her thoughts and emotions about the environment around her. Through intimate reflections and visual storytelling, the documentary captures her perspectives on urban spaces, nature, and the impact of the environment on daily life. In addition to being the director, I was the cinematographer/DOP, producer, and editor.
Milo's Dogumentary

Milo’s Dogumentary is a heartfelt student short documentary that explores the deep bond between Emily and her dog, Milo, and the profound impact he had on her and her family during the COVID-19 lockdown. Directed by Emily Colgan, the film offers an intimate look at how Milo became a source of comfort, companionship, and emotional support in uncertain times. Through personal reflections, the documentary places a special focus on Emilie’s mother, highlighting her perspective on Milo’s role in their lives. I was the sound mixer.

Dr Chijoke Peter Ndeche: The Life Journey and Impact of His Ministry, directed by Florence Akuma, is a student short documentary that honours Dr Chijoke Peter Ndeche, also known as Bro Pee, as my unsung hero and highlights his profound influence on my life as well as his ministry. Through personal reflections and heartfelt storytelling, the film explores his unwavering dedication, faith, and the lasting impact he has had on those around him. This documentary serves as a tribute to a remarkable mentor whose guidance and teachings continue to inspire and shape lives and shape me. In addition to being the director, I was the cinematographer/DOP, producer, and editor.
The Decision

The Decision is a thriller student short film directed by Ekatherina Solonovich that follows Polina, a desperate mother stranded in a broken-down car beside a lake. As she struggles to fix the vehicle, eerie thumping sounds emerge from the trunk, and she begins receiving terrifying text messages, images, and a chilling phone call. The kidnappers of her young daughter demand the unthinkable, she must burn a person alive or risk losing her child forever. With time running out and the weight of an impossible choice pressing down on her, Polina must decide how far she is willing to go to save her daughter. I was the cinematographer/DOP.
The Game
2024
The Game is a horror student short film directed by Florence Akuma that follows two friends, Britt and Alex, as they dare to play the infamous elevator game. The rules seem simple: enter the elevator, press the button for the first floor, and the game begins. Upon arrival, they must close their eyes as a demon joins them, transporting them to its sinister realm. A loud voice signals their arrival, marking the start of a terrifying ordeal. Their only objective, escape before it's too late. As the tension escalates, Alex manages to break free, but Britt is left behind, forever trapped in the demon’s world. In addition to being the director, I was the cinematographer/DOP, producer, and editor.
Rats
2024
RATS is a dark comedy thriller TV pilot episode created by Antoine Iain Murenga (showrunner) and directed by Diégo Malik Jackson. The episode follows 5, a young man with no memories of his past life and a number strapped to his chest, navigating a mysterious facility cut off from society. Stuck with four eccentric roommates, the rat gang must solve twisted riddles and puzzles to survive. Their clashing personalities make every moment a battle of wits and ego. I was one of the production assistants.
The Vampire Diaries
2025
This project is a student actor's showreel featuring a scene from the TV series The Vampire Diaries (Pilot Episode, Season 1, Episode 1). The selected scene takes place at night in the Salvatore brothers' residence, specifically in Stefan’s bedroom at Whitmore House. It captures a pivotal conversation between Damon and Stefan, showcasing the dynamic tension between the two characters. In addition to being the director, I was the production designer.
Shadows of Desire
2025
Shadows of Desire follows Marcus, an artist trapped in the chaos of his own mind, obsessed with women and torn between two opposing forces. On one side is Ava, a shadowy figure who embodies temptation and desire. She’s smooth, soft, and seductive, the kind of presence that draws you in without saying a word. On the other side is Lilith. Sharp, intimidating, and emotionally charged, she isn’t just a shadow; she represents guilt, remorse, and the dread that haunts Marcus for the choices he’s made. Set in a surreal, dream-like world inspired by German Expressionism, especially The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the film visually explores Marcus’s internal conflict. Twisted sets, exaggerated lighting, and distorted shadows all reflect the psychological tension at play. There’s barely any dialogue. The story is told through movement, light, and sound, less about realism, more about emotion. In just two minutes, Shadows of Desire captures the uneasy beauty of being lost in longing and the darkness that comes with it. In addition to being the director, I was the co-producer.
Exit Interview
2025
The story starts with Dan, a corrupted high-ranking corporate executive, arriving for what he thinks is an exit interview after being fired. He thinks it’s just a formality, one last meeting before walking away. But the interviewer has other plans.
It starts off as a normal conversation, but slowly the questions get stranger and more personal to a point where he realizes that this isn’t about his job performance; it’s about his life. I was the producer.
BIO
Florence Amara Akuma is a passionate emerging British-Nigerian filmmaker, writer, and director with a lifelong love for storytelling. She began her filmmaking journey in September 2022 while studying film in the UK, at Coventry University.
She has directed a range of student projects during her studies in the UK, including the comedy short "The Pizza Man" and two documentaries, "Environmental Feelings" and "Dr Chijoke Peter Ndeche: The Life Journey and Impact of His Ministry". After transferring to the UAE, she continued her studies at SAE University College in Dubai, where she is currently a second-year film student. While there, so far, she has directed the horror short "The Game" and a scene recreation from "The Vampire Diaries", an actors showreel.
Her most recent work is Shadows of Desire, a two-minute psychological horror thriller and experimental film inspired by German Expressionism, particularly The Cabinet of Dr Caligari. The film explores internal conflict through mood, shadow, and movement, using a highly stylized visual language with minimal dialogue. This project is still in development.
Outside of her academic projects, Florence spends her time writing original screenplays, studying films, and creating passion projects to continue developing her skills. She is inspired by the work of Tim Burton, whose gothic horror and dark fantasy films have shaped her artistic perspective.
Florence is excited to connect with fellow filmmakers and collaborate on productions that spotlight bold storytelling, strong characters, and emotionally impactful visuals.
